The ability of bargaining differs from country to country. For example, in Saudi Arabia, people there are allowed to bargain in some places to discuss the cost of some product. Therefore, the sales man and the customer can reach an ideally, satisfying price between them. Moreover, I am from Saudi Arabia and this aspect has influenced me big time. It actually helped saving money back home. However, after I graduated from high school, I came to the U.S and things were a little different.
ReplyDeleteBefore I came to the U.S, my sister was already studying at the University of Texas. Thus, I thought to myself for a second that I would never face any kind of trouble with the American culture. Unfortunately, after a month of my arriving to the U.S, she had decided to go back home and asked me to ship all of her stuff back to Saudi.
Furthermore, my sister apartment was very far from where I lived, and I did not have a pickup truck to load her stuff. Moreover, I had to go to somewhere to rent a pickup truck from. Eventually, I discovered “U-Hall”, so I went there hoping that they would give a good price. On top of that, I knew that bargaining is not allowed in the U.S. However, we have an idiom in Saudi which is “It is hard to hide your personality whenever you wanted”. At that period of time, I still had the altitude of bargainer, and I thought it would be ok to try breaking the price down. Then, after I went there and got the information I needed, I quoted and said “I am just trying to find the best price”. The lady’s expirations after that were not reassuring. First she glared at me, and then she said “This is a big company, we do not bargain in here”. What is more, we had a small talk about it, and I explained that this is just the way we talk in Saudi Arabia. After that, the lady suddenly turned from pure evil to pure friendly. This was a funny, taught full day for me .
Last week in the high school, the whole school was preparing for the graduation ceremony. We trained a lot so that no one can make any mistake during the celebration. While preparing, our friend Omar faced an intense fever, and he couldn't participate in the celebration. Therefore, we replaced his place, but the guy who replaced Omar's place wasn't fully prepared because he didn't contribute in the training.
ReplyDeleteHours before the celebration, we were doing the final rehearsal. Ahmed, the guy who replaced Omar, wasn't with us. As a result, I called him, but he didn't respond. After that, Ahmed showed up and said, "Everything is going to be ok." At first, I had no idea what he is talking about, but after while he said that he was training with Omar. Then, we lined up for the graduation ceremony, and our contribution was just to take the certification when you hear your name.
While calling the names, Ahmed told me that he had an emergency call. I told him to come back as soon as possible. A while later, they called me name, and I took my certification. Then I realized that Ahmed wasn't in the line, and his turn was approaching. Later, they called someone's name twice, but he didn't respond. Ahmed was outside, and he heard the name twice. He thought that it was his name. Therefore, he started running toward the stage. When he reached the stage, the whole crowd was already laughing. Ahmed realized that he made a huge mistake, and he was embarrassed, but the crowd enjoyed the show in the graduation day.

ReplyDeleteMe and my boyfriend Dony moved to Houston 4 months ago. We decided to buy a dog. We got chihuahua puppy and gave him a name Stinky. Stinky was 4 moths old and needed to be trained. I tried to teach him to pee on a training pad and he was learning pretty fast, what made both of us happy.
ReplyDeleteOne day we got invitation from our friends for dinner in their house. We had known Gerson and Susana since we came to the city. We were glad to see them again and expected to have a nice evening. We left home and were in a car when Dony asked me if I had washed his socks today, because he felt they were wet. I answered that I hadn't. We came into their house and took off our shoes. As soon as Dony took them off I noticed that his sock was yellow! Now we knew why it was wet. Stinky peed in his shoe! Our friends didn't notice that but my boyfriend was so embarrassed. While eating the dinner Susana said that she felt smell of urine and she didn't know why. Everyone could smell that! Dony went to the bathroom, when he came back his sock looked better. It was white not yellow. We spent the rest of the evening talking and having fun with our friends.
After we left I asked Dony if he had washed his sock in a bathroom. He said that he could not do it because he would walk with wet foot the rest of the evening. “So what did you do?” I asked him. “I went to the bathroom and noticed the closet there. So, I found Gerson's sock, wore it and left yellow sock in their washing machine,” Dony answered calm. I could not believe that he had done it to our friends! I looked at his feet and saw that one sock is two times smaller than the other. I think it was Susana's sock! I have never told her that, because I think she would not understand Dony's behavior. Man stealing women's socks, wearing them and leaving his dirty ones in somebody's house is not normal situation. It was funny story though!
I don't know why it doesn't show the space in the beginning of every paragraph....
