You had an appointment with me yesterday after class. You didn't come
because something happened which prevented you from coming. What
happened? Be creative. Extra points if you make me laugh. Use the past perfect.
Also, read this short article about an excuse that made national news:

I had lost my way when i drove to the LCC building.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't sound like a very good excuse. You need to be more imaginative.
DeleteHow about i had been robbed when i drove to the LCC building.
DeleteThat's getting better but you'll need to provide details if you want me to believe your excuse! Remember, I'm not just your grammar teacher but your WRITING teach as well ;D
DeleteAlso, your verb tense is not correct here. You should say "I was robbed when I came to the LCC," 2 events in the simple past, the when-event happened first.
I had forgortten the appointment complatily after I finished class.
ReplyDeletePS:If you have problem to use the link above , use this one

it may be the same
Yichen,
DeleteTwo events happened in the past. One of them is in the past perfect; the other is in the simple past. Which event happened first?
I forgort the appointment complatily after I had finished class.
DeleteYesterday, while I was driving to the LCC, one of my car's wheel was punctured. By the time the wheel got fixed, My phone battery had already died. Therefore, I couldn't call you.
ReplyDeleteGreat grammar; semi-good excuse ;)
DeleteAt 2pm I had already taken a nap and I was ready to meet you at the LCC like you told us, when I noticed that my little dog "Nano" had scaped. So i walked around the neighborhood, but after 15 minutes of search I decided to go back home to tell my mom about Nano so we could look for him by car, when I got home I saw Nano in the front door waiting for me, he had returned to my house by himself and I didn't even noticed it, by then it was too late to meet you, im sorry i couldn't be there(;
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad that Nano made his way home.
DeleteI had helped a little dog to find his mother before I went to see you, and I lost my way when I came back.
ReplyDeleteThat's very kind of you, Rena.
DeleteYou don't need to use past perfect because simple past would be clear in this situation.
I was going to the car when I realized, I had forgotten my keys! I had to go back, to apartment on 29th floor, and then I got stuck in the elevator, which didn't move for 15 min. Next 2h I had panic attack because of that accident. When I came to the LCC you had already left.
ReplyDeleteNow this is interesting to read:
DeleteGreat grammar; great excuse!
yesterday when i was coming to the class i through 10 dollars from the window instead of my gum, So i went to the class thinking about how that happened and forgot to show up in our appointment.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you said that because you know what happened to me yesterday? Wait. First let me tell you about what happened the day before yesterday. I was walking past a building very close to the window and I stepped on this huge piece of gum. Well, the gum got stuck on my shoe and actually my foot got stuck on the ground and I couldn't move until a tow truck came to pull me away. I said to myself, "boy, this is my unlucky day." Well, as I said, that was the day before. Then yesterday, I was walking past the exact spot where I stepped in the gum, and guess what, instead of gum there was a 10 dollar bill. I thought, "wow, this must be my lucky day."
DeleteI'm planning to go back there again tomorrow to see what I find next.
I don't see any past perfect in your excuse. Please try again :)
Also, please do not throw gum on the ground. The proper burial place for your chewed gum is the garbage can.
I am so sorry I had missed our appointment yesterday, in fact I had missed all of yesterday classes also. And here is why? the night befor was a mess I had been taking car of my baby while my wife studied for her test. I didn`t sleep more than two hours because I let my baby sleep in my bed and befor I had slept I forgot to put a diper on for my baby. Guess what? I woke up on a sea of "popo". I was so angry but got a little control back on my self and I along with Mohammad took a shower and that just kissed the sleeping goodbye. I prepared a bottle of milk for my baby, and after that I had eaten my breakfast and got ready for my day at school with your appointment in mind. I put my baby to sleep and I had dressed and went to our school. In the parking lot, I was walking to class and I had noticed some odd looks for the people until I met a classmate who just laught at me and left. That when I realized that I was standing in the middle of the parking lot with no pants.I had been embarrassed to show up to the class so I got back to my house hoping that my classmate will forget what happened over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThe babies can go out without pants, but the parents have to wear them, unfortunately ;)
DeleteIt's a great excuse, so I forgive you for missing the appointment. However, let's look at your use of past perfect in class tomorrow.
While I was driving to school, one of my best friend called me. He said that the people are starting to own their home on the moon, so I had to make deal with that. After I had done with my area on the moon, I had been late to come to my appointment with you.
ReplyDeleteGood excuse; bad grammar.
Delete"After I had done with my area on the moon, I had been late to come to my appointment with you."
Please try again!
When I got up, my dog had eaten my car key. I live in Cypress. Theer is no way to go to school without a car!! I'm waiting for the key to come out from him.
ReplyDeleteOh my! It sounds like this will be good training for you to become a mother. Just ask Abdulrahman about the "sea of poop."
DeleteI had received an e-mail from bank that said my account had some trouble before I came to the class, then I went to the bank.
ReplyDeleteGood grammar; mediocre excuse ;)

ReplyDeleteBy the time I had done with my area on the moon, I was late to come to my appointment with you.
ReplyDeleteDon’t blame it on me, I BLAME this on YOU. Yesterday I wake up looking like a zombie rushing to the car, so I can be on time . When I got to the university, I parked my car and start running to class. HOWEVER, their was this girl whom I notice after my classes had ended that was speaking English very well, but I also knew that she isn’t a native English speaker. I was very interested in knowing who taught her this beautiful English coming out of her mouth. So I went to her and introduced myself and asked her??. She was a little shocked at first, but eventually she answered me and said Holly Cin did. I was amazed by what she had told me. AFTER THAT, we started talking about how great you are therefore I COMPLETELY forget about our meeting. Clearly, it is your fault.
