Ppt. presentation on identifying/non-identifying clauses

http://www.slideshare.net/holly_cin/restrictiveclauses

You can download it or view it on the above site.

And here is a presentation I made (but forgot to use in class) on reported speech. I think this will make everything clear.

http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0073406414/student_view0/chapter9/parts_1_and_2.html

You should try the first four quizzes.

If these are helpful, please let me know. (If these are helpful--adverb clause of condition)

Also let me know if they're not helpful. (If they're not helpful--noun clause as the object)

Blog Writing #13: Adjective Clauses (due Friday, 11/2)

Please write a paragraph about your ideal husband or your ideal wife. Use as many adjective clauses as possible.

Example: My ideal husband is someone whom I can confide in when I have troubles. He is the man who will stay with me forever, even when I get old, fat, and sick.

I look forward to reading your posts, which you should complete ON SCHEDULE!

Musical Lesson: Object Relative Clause

"The One that You Love," by Air Supply (from my teenage years...)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kH8jzBb9c0

Highlighted parts are noun clauses, not adjective clauses

Now the night has gone
Now the night has gone away
Doesn't seem that long
We hardly had two words to say
Hold me in your arms for just another day
I promise this one will go slow
Oh, we have the right you know
We have the right you know

Don't say the morning's come
Don't say the morning's come, so soon
Must we end this way
When so much here is hard to lose?
Love is everywhere; I know it is.
Such moments as this are too few
Oh, it's all up to you
It's all up to you

(Chorus) Here I am, the one that you love
Asking for another day
Understand, the one that you love
Loves you in so many ways

Tell me we can stay
Tell me we can stay, oh please
Those are the words to say
The only words I can believe
Hold me in your arms for just another day
I promise this one will go slow
Oh, we have the right you know
We have the right you know

(Chorus (2X))
The night has gone, a part of yesterday
I don't know what to say (reduced from what I should say)
I don't know what to say

Musical Lesson: Subject Relative Clause

"I Wanna Dance with Somebody Who Loves Me," by Whitney Houston

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KhhY9iwn-w

Clock strikes upon the hour
And the sun begins to fade
Still enough time to figure out
How to chase my blues away
I've done alright up till now
It's the light of day that shows me how
And when the night falls the loneliness calls

Chorus:
Oh I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me
Oh I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me

I've been in love and lost my senses
Spinning through the town
Sooner or later the fever ends
And I wind up feeling down
I need a man who'll take a chance
On a love that burns hot enough to last
So when the night falls
My lonely heart calls

Chorus:
Oh I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat with somebody
Yeah I wanna dance with somebody
With  somebody who loves me
Oh I wanna dance with somebody
I wanna feel the heat
Yeah I wanna dance with somebody
With somebody who loves me

Somebody who somebody who
Somebody who loves me
Somebody who somebody who
To hold me in his arms oh
I need a man who'll take a chance
On a love that burns hot enough to last
So when the night falls
My lonely heart calls.

Have a great weekend

Blog writing #11, 12, 12.2, 13, and the noun clause song contest are all due before returning to class on Tuesday.

I hope that you will come to the picnic on Sunday if you're in town. I'll be there from 1-4. Come whenever you can. I'll be making hot chocolate because it should be a nice, chilly day (but sunny).

Is anybody coming from Katy? Can you give Mariana a ride?
